What do you want to see from the rumored Cadillac LTS?

In a mere 38 days at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance a rebirth of American luxury will occur. The prestigious gathering of high profile million dollar automobiles will take us back to a time when automotive luxury was spectacular. Duesenberg gave us the Model J, Bugatti gave us the Royale, and Cadillac gave us the V16. The V16 was the epitome of American luxury. Something Cadillac has been missing from it's brand line up for almost 40 years. At the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours however that could all change. Since 2012 Cadillac has been presenting to the public design exercises that harken back to the land yachts of old. Top level prestige and luxury nothing less. Cadillac said they would present three design studies and they have already done two with the Elmarij and the Ciel. The final car will soon be unveiled and this is what I want to see form it:

Kinja'd!!!

Hood Ornament

All the great luxury car companies still have them. They have stuck with their tradition for generations. The hood ornament represents a prestigious and pompous attitude. Like a "Get the hell out of my way poor person or I will run you over." That is what makes the hood ornament such an important part of a flagship luxury car. It should be intimidating, it should evoke some presence, and finally a hood ornament gives the car a sense of occasion.

Give the car a real name

Is it really that hard to give a car a name? The Germans appear to think so. I can't think of five cars that actually has a real name that came from German luxury. What's in a name? A lot if you ask me. Ferrari, Mustang, Rolls Royce, Countach, and Corvette. All these names inspire some association with greatness. So instead of Cadillac copying the Germans and simply calling this new Cadillac the LTS perhaps they should copy the British and give the car a real name. It really cannot be that hard!

Kinja'd!!!

Please give us a convertible

Up until the roll over standards in the 1970s all the truly great luxury cars came in convertible form. Sure you could order a more practical 4 door variant but the true playboy got a convertible. It is an American tradition that stretches at least as far back as the 1940s and it is one I would like to see return. There really is not anything more romantic than taking a grand tour down the coast in a convertible with the love of your life right there beside you in the passenger seat.

Pebble Beach is 38 days away Cadillac. I don't ask for much. Just make your new flagship as beautiful as the concept cars and send the Germans back to Germany. It is time for American luxury to once more rein supreme.

I'd like to see an LTS-V Powered by a twin turbo LSV12. Nothing says 'We're back' like an 850HP AMG smasher.

That, like a 4 door vert from the factory today, is totally not going to happen though.

What I want to see from a luxury car is a compartment for sunglasses, that will keep them cool while parked in the summer. Has this been done?

Add 4 more cylinders to that and you got yourself a winner.

I'd be happy with a high-displacement V8, preferably turbo-charged, but not necessarily, after all this thing doesn't need to be incredibly fast, although it would b enice.

The LTS won't come with anything more than a V8, because come on the market cannot support the development costs for a V12 or a V16.

However I think the LTS will come with these engine options: V6 from the ATS, the V6 from the CTS V-Sport, the LT1 V8, and the V8 we'll later see in the ZR1. I don't see Cadillac supercharging any of their cars, so no LT4.

/said someone on the internet.

Make it look like the Ciel arguably the most exciting and good looking modern sedan design I've ever seen.

perhaps they should copy the British and give the car a real name.

Yeah, like XK, XJ, XF, XE or DB9.

Maserati is really the only one left that I can think of that doesn't use acronyms in its naming. At least, if we're talking about "luxury" vehicles, which is what Chrysler FIAT wants Maserati to be.

I could see the CTS V-Sport as a base engine option for sure. 420hp is no laughing matter. I would like to see the LT4 in the new flagship but like you said it is unlikely to happen.

I don't think so... But then again I don't think many people usually want that.

No. 9 times out of 10 I just wear my sunglasses with me on a sunny hot day or take them inside at night.

1. Hood ornament

2. Optional front bench with column shift

4. Big V8

3. At least a 120 inch wheelbase

I have a feeling I might be disappointed.

If there is one thing that will disappoint you it will be this:

Optional front bench with column shift

I WANT to see an outrageous and awesome V16. Sadly I expect to see a more humdrum V8.

It is unfortunately a rather archaic and outdated method. However it would be glorious

1. No shitty ass V6

1. An interior not made of "piano black" (read: cheap glossy) plastic

1. Actual buttons in the center stack.

1. Decent transitions between interior components and the carpet rather than the former abruptly ending and being all flexy and chintzy hanging over said carpet.

1. Have I mentioned ditching the glossy black plastic inside?

1. A V-bar underneath the new emblem because right now it looks barren

1. Needs a V-12

1. How about some decent trim around marker lights and wheel arches instead of also abruptly ending? Cadillacs don't have that same "wrap-around" completeness as the German marques (or even Fords, goddamn) do.

1. No V6.
